How does overbuilding work?

Like, if i overbuild my port in the rail era, after that port has been flipped, is there any benefit I lose?

If I need that location and can still flip it, is it a good idea?

If the port is already flipped, you lose the VPs but not the income. If the building isn't flipped, there's no change; you're just replacing one unflipped building with another. It's not something you want to do in the run of things, but can be useful. (Except of course if you're overbuilding another player's coal or iron, which is something you should do, preferably with an evil glint in your eye.)

Good score. Yeah, I think you can lose the L-plates, or local equivalent.

Starting player is nice, getting first go at the cheap iron, but it isn't a massive advantage in my experience, and the way the cards fall can soon smooth things out.
